It’s now about two weeks since the country hosted the first ever tripartite election on May 20, reports reaching Face of Malawi indicate that Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is yet to pay the allowances of the supporting staff in the election.

These include some drivers and polling centre presiding officer.

“Since I was recruited I am yet to receive my allowance. MEC should just inform us if they will give us our money or not. Throughout the period, I have been footing all the bills including lodging and accommodation using person money,” he complained one of the drivers who opted for anonymity.

Electoral Commission public relations officer Mr Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed of the development and attributed the delay  on communication breakdown between the workers and the commission, who he said did not fill some required forms to receive their allowances.

Meanwhile it is not yet known as to when the commission will pay the allowances.
