Civil Society Education Coalition (Csec) has blasted the tendency of transporting this year’s Junior Examination (JCE) papers to cluster centres through bicycle taxi, saying it’s a worry some development to the country’s education.
Csec Executive Director Benedicto Kondowe said this in an interview with one of the daily papers in the country (Nation Newspaper).
“Transporting national examinations using bicycle taxi is a backward logistical arrangement and must be stopped. We have written to government over this and it is sad that it is still continuing. What if the box gets blown off by the wind? Or if it rains, what then? There is security risk of the materials being leaked, he said.
Investigations revealed that Examinations were transported through Kabaza in central region especially in the following centres; Nkhoma, Ching’ombe, Ndemani, Mitundu and Chankhande—in Lilongwe. The minimum distance from holding centres to distribution centres is five kilometres.
In his response to the development, Malawi National Examination Board(MANEB) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Simeon Maganga condemned the move and said necessary measures will be taken to district education officers involved after investigations.
Meanwhile JCE Examinations have started today across the country.
