A 40 year old Man from Thyolo district is in Police custody for allegedly wounding a police officer on duty.
Thyolo Police Public Relations Officer Edith Kachotsa confirmed of the development in an interview and identified the victim as Constable Lucky Ndovie of Makande Police Unit in the district.
The Police received a tip on June 14 this year that John Tukula was selling Indian hemp.
Kachotsa said Ndovie and two community police officer went on to search at Tukula’s house at Lalakani Trading Centre around 21.00 hours and found 10 kg of Indian hemp.
“Soon after the arrest Tukula started shouting that he had been attacked by arm robbers and a group of people came and assaulted the police officer who was in uniform.
The police officer was beaten severely that he sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted at Thyolo District hospital,” said Kachotsa.
Meanwhile the suspect is still in police custody and will appear in court soon to answer the charges of unlawful wounding and found in possession of Indian hemp.
Tukula comes from Kholowa Village Traditional Authority Chimaliro in the district.
