United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi who is also Minister of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining has said he is in the Cabinet of President Professor Author Peter Mutharika ‘as a servant of Malawians and not an opportunist’ as described by analyst.
The young Muluzi of “Ung’ono Ung’ono” fame said this on Tuesday in Lilongwe.
“How is this making me an opportunist? You can serve in Cabinet and serve Malawians, just the same way as you can serve in any position.
“There are some synergies between Democratic Progressive Party [DPP] manifesto and UDF manifesto and we saw this even during the debates, where it was all about exchanging ideas to the cause”, said Muluzi.
He added: “It’s about Malawi, and whatever capacities and positions we serve it’s really about Malawians at heart and this is a necessity to the need for unity of purpose and making sure it’s about Malawi and putting Malawi forward.”
Meanwhile UDF spokesperson Ken Ndanga has said the appointment of Muluzi has no any affect to the party and the party still remain in the opposition.
Muluzi also served as a Minister in the Joyce Banda administration and he later dumped the position.
