Former Chief Secretary in the Office of President and Cabinet Ms. Hawa Olga Ndilowe may have been sacked after she was discovered to have been arranging a foreign trip for former President Joyce Hilda Mtila Banda behind the back of incumbent Malawi President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, we can reveal.
Sources say Ms. Ndilowe had been making arrangements for Mrs Banda’s trip, bypassing the sitting Head of State Prof. Mutharika.
It is reported that Ndilowe in her capacity as Chief Secretary made all the arrangements for Mrs Banda’s international sojourn before the news was discovered in the Office of President and Cabinet.
It was only after the story leaked that Ndilowe informed the sitting Head of State about Banda’s impending trip to the USA.
Former President Joyce Banda leaves the country in the next few days for the United States of America (USA) where she is expected to stay for close to a month.
The Malawi Government is footing all the travel expenses for Mrs Joyce Banda and her entourage.
Apart from the USA, Mrs Banda, is also expected to visit South Africa and the United Kingdom, Scotland in particular.
She is believed to have embarked on this trip in order to try and hide some of her properties accumulated through high level corruption, stolen government and donor money in the last two years she has been in power.
Our source, who is very close to the trip says that Mrs Banda has been feeling insecure since losing the Presidential race in the June 20th polls and this trip to change ownership of property should have happened immediately after losing power.
The inner circle person said the illegal property was not properly concealed earlier because former President Banda had all the confidence, she was to win the May 20th General Elections.
Former Chief Secretary Hawa Ndilowe was sacked from her post on Tuesday and later posted to Tanzania as Malawi’s High Commissioner.
Her deputy, Willie Samute is acting as Chief Secretary to the Government.
Both Hawa Ndilowe and Willie Samute come from the former President’s home district of Zomba and were appointed into those positions by former President Banda.
