Wananchi Group-owned East African pay-television operator Zuku TV, has announced the completion of its test phase in Malawi and said it plans to launch services in the country at an initial cost of USD 10 million, tace of Malawi reported. Wananchi Group CEO Richard Alden said the goal is to ensure the majority of, if not all, households in the country have access to world class digital television content at very affordable subscription charges. Zuku TV already operates in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The pay-TV operator is also planning to expand to Ethiopia and Rwanda by the end of this year.
In Malawi, Zuku TV plans to partner with local artists to give them a platform to promote their talents. Viewers will be treated to tailor-made channels such as Zuku Africa, airing African content, documentary channel Zuku Life, Zuku Sports, and Zuku Kids to provide entertainment and edutainment for children aged between 6 and 12 years, and as well as a number of themed movie channels.
