Customers in Lilongwe from around Likuni area who have been added to the Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) system from Central Region Water Board (CRWB) on Friday stormed the board’s offices to complain about various problems they are facing with water supply.
The customers complained about persistent low water pressure, interruptions, wrong bills and delayed connections.
The meeting was the first since LWB took over the Likuni Water Scheme from CWRB in April this year.
Josia Mtawanji of Zakumba Farming Limited, which keeps over 50 000 chickens for egg production and needs about 50 drums of water a day, said he considers scaling down the business as the water problems have affected his and other businesses in the area.
He said the cost of using vehicles to fetch water when there is water interruption, is very high and so there is much need for the problem to be sorted out quickly.
LWB general manager, Alfonso Chikuni, assured the customers that they will have normal supply of water following the commissioning of new tanks being constructed at old Airport.
“We’ll be commissioning new tanks at the old airport to supply this new supply area,” explained Chikuni.
