Death has been announced of Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldier, Staff Sergeant Aiden Belvine Kamungu, who was serving with International Intervention Brigade (FIB) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Kamungu died on Saturday.

According to MDF spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Francis Kakhuta Banda, Kamungu was serving as a Mortar man.

Kakhuta-Banda said Staff Sergeant Kamungu collapsed at around 2100 hours while getting ready to report for night duties.

“He was immediately rushed to Contingents Level One Hospital within the camp where medical doctors tried to resuscitate him failed and pronounced him dead.

“We greatly mourn the death of this brave soldier and his family has been informed accordingly,” he said.

Staff Sergeant Kamungu hailed from Nkombezi village, Traditional Authority  Kanyenda in central district of Nkhotakota.
