Blantyre Urban Community Policing Forum (BUCF) also known as concerned citizen on Wednesday petitioned government through the Speaker of the National Assembly to aggressively consider intensifying Security mechanisms in the country.
The group presented a petition on Wednesday morning through Mulanje South Parliamentarian Bon Kalindo.
While reading a petition before handing it over to the speaker’s representative, Chairman of the grouping Misheck Munthali said government should intervene on all matters pertaining to security lapse.
On welfare of the police, Munthali urged government to reconsider matters to do with housing, working resources and motivation factors for all police officers in the country.
Muthali further pointed out that police community forums in the country should also be fully equipped considering the fact that these forums work hand in hand with formal trained police officers.
In his remarks soon after receiving the petition, Kalindo thanked the grouping for taking the initiative in making sure that security matters in residential and working areas are handled comprehensively.
He said it sad to note that despite many challenges that Malawi police service faces, the previous government did not prioritize safe and security.
He said that he will therefore make sure that he also take part in the campaign to safety because it concerns the lives of the people.
This development comes following a series of crimes that took place in Blantyre earlier last month.
