Police in Blantyre have arrested man suspected to have murdered a well known Portuguese businessman, Serafim Fernando da Silva and charged him with murder.
Blantyre Police spokesperson, Elizabeth Divala has confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as 28-year-old Ziwani Jassi of Chiwalo Village, T/A Kapeni in Blantyre.
“We do have one suspect that has been charged with murder.
“we have charged him with murder and also another count of robbery with violence contrary to Sections 209 and 301 of the Penal Code respectively”, said Divala.
Da Silva was reported shot dead at the entrance of his office in Manja upon arrival from the bank where he went to withdrew money amounting to K2 million late last week meant for his workers.
According to Divala, police separately invited the deceased’s wife and son, who were present when the deceased was shot, and that they both identified the suspect.
Meanwhile Police are still searching for the remaining four criminals who are still at large.
