The newly appointed Attorney General in the President Professor Author Peter Mutharika administration, Kalekeni Kaphale has recused himself from a treason case involving former Vice President Dr Cassimu Chilumpha and Yusufu Matumula.

Kaphale disclosed this in an interview with one of the local media house in the country (CAPITAL FM).

In his speech, Kaphale said it will be wrong him to continue handling the case while at the same time hold the Attorney General’s office.

“Now that I have crossed over the case to the (DPP) I cannot get involved in that case at all.

“And there are a lot of other offices that can handle that case like that of the Solicitor General all of whom are highly experienced and highly rated law officers,” he said.

Chilumpha and Matumula were arrested in 2006 on allegation that they were planning to assassinate the former president the late Bingu wa Mutharika using hired assassins from south Africa.
