Teachers who rendered there services to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) during the controversial May 20 tripartite election are today on the street in Lilongwe demonstrating over their unpaid allowances.
The demonstrations were scheduled for last week Friday but were disrupted by the police who claimed that, the teachers did not follow the right procedures.
Speaking earlier before the demonstration, Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) General Secretary Denis Kalekeni said the aim of the demonstration is to press MEC to pay the allowances of all teachers who offered their services during the election.
However, MEC maintains that some of them are not paid because they gave wrong information of their bank accounts.
