Despite assurance from Malawi Police and Minister of Home Affairs of tight security in the country in the past weeks, little seems to be done on the ground as people continue to be robbed across the country.

The latest incident happened over the weekend in Blantyre where unknown thugs abducted High Court Judge Rowland Mbvundula and later dumped him while going away with the car.

The attackers hijacked the judge’s official Toyota Prado TX vehicle registration MG 716 AF and stole assorted personal effects, including a laptop computer, auto-teller machine (ATM) cards and an undisclosed sum of cash.

Minister of Home Affairs Paul Chibingu confirmed of the incident and said his ministry is doing whatever he can to make sure that the car is recovered and the unknown thugs are caught and brought to book.

While confirming the development, spokesperson for the Judiciary Joseph Chigona of the High Court of Malawi said Justice Mvundula was in a stable condition, but “very traumatised”.

According to Chigona, the incident occurred in Mount Pleasant, Blantyre at around 11pm as the judge was about to get into his vehicle.

Meanwhile the responsible Minister has assured Malawians of peace and stability across the country.
