Malawi National Assembly members have silently raised their monthly salary by 100 percent making them to go away with 1.2 million every month.

Apart from revising their monthly salary, MPs have also been granted a loan of K24 million which will be payable within 5 years of office.

This has been revealed by a local newspapers in the country [Nation on Sunday].

Motor Vehicle allowances and Maintenance allowance has been raised from Mk150,000 to MK600,000 and Consolidated Allowance has also been raised from K540,000 to MK1.1 million a month.

When approached for comment, National Assembly and Ministry of Finance confirmed of the development by saying that gross package of Members of Parliament has doubled from K724,114 while the loan facility has more than tripled from K7 million.

The increase in monthly salary by 100 percent have seen the budget allocation for 192 MPs to shoot to K3.2billion per-year.
