Former Head of State Dr. Bakili Muluzi has been appointed as Special Commonwealth envoy to Swaziland.

Muluzi confirmed receiving the appointment letter from Commonwealth Secretary general Kamalesh with one of the local daily papers [Nation Newspaper].

“This is a great honour to me personally and to Malawi. You will recall that when I served as Head of State, I undertook peacekeeping missions to a number of countries including DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan and Angola.

“I always believe that for our continent to develop, there should be peace and also ensuring the establishment of democratic institutions. I am also grateful to His Excellency Professor Peter Mutharika who having heard about the appointment, has wished me well and said he will do whatever he can do to support my work,” said Muluzi.

On his Part, President Professor Author Peter Mutharika said he was happy with the appointment of Muluzi and he pledged a total support to former Head of State as he take up his new post.

In the letter of appointment dated July 10 2014, Sharma says Muluzi is expected to follow up on the recommendations of the Commonwealth Observer Mission (COM) he led during the September 2013 elections.

Muluzi took over the rain of Leadership from the Father and founder of malawi Nation Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda and he ruled this country for ten Years from 1994 to 2004.
