Despite Malawi Police Service (MPS) and Minister of Home Affairs assuring the nation of Peace and stability, residence across the country continue to live in perpetual fear as robbers are on the street terrorizing people and stealing people’s property.

The latest being in Lilongwe where unknown armed robbers stole K5 million from Jehovah’s Witnesses Church’s Lilongwe Area 14 premises on Tuesday.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the theft.

“A member of the church identified as Philip Selengo, aged 57, was assigned to withdraw the K5 million from the bank. He was in the company of another member of the church. Then a car identified as a Toyota Corolla, silver in colour, was trailing them.

“According to the information that we have gathered, one man dropped from the car and demanded the money at gun point,” said Dandaula, adding that the car which the robbers used had BN7800 as its registration number.

The police spokesperson has since appealed to Malawians to desist from carrying huge amounts of money in cars without police escort, observing that the trend is becoming common and is giving robbers and easy chance of executing their acts.
