President Professor Author Peter Mutharika is this Friday August 1 slighted to leave the country for United States of America to attend the African Leaders Summit.

Deputy State House Press Secretary Timpunza Mwasambo confirmed of the development in a statement released to the Press.

The Summit which is scheduled to start on August 4-6 will be attended by several other African Heads of State and government and it will focus on the theme ‘Investing in the Next Generation” and how the leaders can together sustain Africa’s transformation.

President Mutharika has been invited to attend the Summit in Washington DC by US President Barack Obama.

“The President will attend the important Summit at the invitation of US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle”, reads part of the statement.

According to the statement ,during the summit Mutharika will among other things participate in a number of signature events which include; Resilience and Food Security in a Changing Climate as well as the US-Africa Business Forum.

This will be President Mutharika’s first International trip since he was elected as President of Malawi on May 20.
