President Professor Author Peter Mutharika on Wednesday assured Vendors who have lost their properties through fearless fire that burnt down Tsoka market that his government will compensate them.

The fire started on Tuesday night destroyed properties worth millions of Kwacha.

In his speech, Mutharika said he was sadden with the recent fire incidents that have taken the country by surprise and he warned against suspected arsonists, saying they will not left free.

“I know that there are some people who are doing this, but once they are caught, through the investigations currently underway, they will suffer the consequences”, Said Mutharika.

Before Mutharika’s visit Vendors were involved in running battles with the Police who demanded the market to be closed and no trading should take place in the market.

This is the fourth incident in the space of a month and various stakeholders have demanded an immediate intervention by government to establish the cause.

Meanwhile the cause of the fire is not yet known as investigations are still underway.
