It is a unique way of saving money from our cash depleted coffers but President Peter Mutharika arrived today in a chartered plane from his visit to the US where he attended the US-Africa summit.

Mutharika in the company of his wife and some government officials arrived via the Kamuzu International Airport this afternoon where he was welcomed by the country’s Vice President Saulos Chilima and his wife.

Unlike the tradition, Mutharika did not speak to the press upon arrival and has indicated that he will be holding his press briefing on Tuesday.

Mutharika had an almost 40 man delegation that joined him on his journey to the US and it included government officials, business captains and journalists.

Apart from attending the summit Mutharika also met with Malawians living in the US in which he disclosed to them that his DPP led government will consider a dual citizenship for Malawi citizens in the diaspora.

This was Mutharika’s first travel outside the country ever since he ascended to the post of Presidency in the country.
