Two people are in police custody in Phalombe for allegedly being involved in the trafficking of five children to Mozambique.

Phalombe Police spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspects as Gosten Likangala, 24 and Mavuto Chikapa, 27.

According to the police, the suspects traveled around villages of the five children in Zomba where they convinced their parents that they had found jobs for the children in Mozambique.

The children were of ages range between 13 and 17 and were being taken to Mozambique on bicycles before the police intercepted them at Nambazo Trading Centre.

The two suspect will answer charges of Child Trafficking contrary to Section 79 of the Child Care Protection and Justice Act.

Likangala hails from Zambezia Province in Mozambique while Chikapa hails from Chikowi village in Zomba.
