President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has blasted claims that he went to honeymoon in the United States of America with his newly wedded wife Gertrude Mutharika.

Mutharika quashed the claims on Tuesday during a Press briefing held at Kamuzu Palace aiming at updating the media and the nation as whole on what transpired during the US-African Leaders Summit held in Washington DC.

The summit which was held under the theme “Investing in the Next Generation” attracted about 49 African Leaders.

In his speech, Mutharika said “I just want you, and the nation to know that contrary to what others kept fuelling behind, I, together with my wife, didn’t go to the US on a honeymoon. We are yet to”.
Mutharika said the trip was a tight schedule throughout; even joking that he did not even have the time to buy himself a necktie.

This was the first International trip for President Mutharika since he was elected as President on the controversial May 20 tripartite election which was marred by several irregularities.
