A man drowns in Bua River where he had gone to fish in Gamba village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi over the weekend.
According to Malomo Police Unit Detective sub inspector, Orphan Mkhalipi, the incident occurred on August 10 and identified the victim as Chagontha Butao aged 60.
“The deceased on August 10 2014 had told his wife that he was going to the river to catch fish using bamboo made baskets and never returned.” said Kamboyi.
He said the relatives and community mounted a search around in the river and on August 11 2014 it found Butao’s body floating in the deepest part of water.
A post-mortem conducted at Malomo Health Centre indicated that Butao died of suffocation as a result of drowning. “No foul play is suspected as the body was viewed with any marks of violence and burial was ordered.” said Mkhalipi.
