Premier mobile service provider Telecom Networks Malawi (TNM) Sunday donated K4 million to Operation Smile, a South African based team of surgeons who are in the country to undertake free screening and surgeries at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
TNM Managing Executive for Regional Operations Phyllis Manguluti said the company appreciate the challenges that people are facing in accessing treatment.
“We remain firmly committed to contributing to Malawi’s socio-economic development through direct assistance in the health sector,” she said.
Recently, TNM provided assistance to the Pediatrics group in Blantyre and in Nsanje at Trinity Mission Hospital.
“We are optimistic that the provision of surgery services by Operation Smile will change the lives of children who could hardly speak or smile and remove them from isolation,” said Manguluti.
TNM also contributed mobile phone airtime to the team Ann provision of SMS broadcast to the public informing them of Operation Smile scheduled mission.
Operation Smile South African Regional Director Tamlin Abrahamas said the donation will assist them reach out to as many people as possible.
“We had planned to operate between 120 to 150 people but the response has been overwhelming as we have screened over 200 people, so the donation has made a very huge difference,” she said.
