Zomba Police have arrested a couple for soliciting money amounting to K39,000 from three boys all school leavers under the pretext that they were World Vision employees recruiting staff to fill vacant posts at Thyolo World Vision Office.
Zomba Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Constable Patricia Supuliano confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspects as Steven Kathonje, 30 and Glorial Kathonje, 23.
According to the police, the two who are wife and husband were arrested for allegedly personating as World Vision employees and duping money from the desperate school leavers claiming they would offer them a job.
“They collected K30, 000 from Cresco Likwezembe, K6, 000 from Yamikani Ligomeka and K3, 000 from Davis Milanzi all from Chinamwali location promising them jobs at Thyolo World Vision offices which never materialized,” Supuliano said.
She explained that the husband is the one who was going door to door targeting the school leavers saying there were vacancies at World vision office in Thyolo requiring young men to fill.
Kathonje hails from T/A Chimaliro while the wife hails from Ntcheu.
Meanwhile Police in Zomba have urged job seekers to be very careful.
