Police in Mangochi have arrested a 35 year-old clinician whose unlicensed clinic a patient died while under the knife.

Mangochi police spokesperson Inspector Rodrick Maida confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Jailosi Amilu who hails from Mponela village in the area of Traditional Authority Makanjira in Mangochi.

According to police, the clinician was arrested a fatal attempt at removing a goiter from Amina Aisa, a 68-year-old woman who was fed-up with the deformity on her neck.

Aisa died as a result of severe hemorrhage.

According to Maida, the incident happened on Friday August 15, 2014 at the house of the suspect “who was claiming to be a medical doctor”.

“Upon arrival, Mr. Jailosi Amilu started operating on the deceased which resulted into heavy loss of blood and the patient died on the spot,” said Maida.

A police search mounted at Amilu’s house by officers from Makanjira police post found some hospital equipment which proved that he was running a clinic without license.

The suspect will appear in Court soon to answer charges of murder.
