People in Likoma and Chizumulu Islands have been expressed their grievances in transportation as the MV Illala ship has a long way to go back to normal operations according to Malawi Shipping Company (MSC).
After it started operating in May this year, the on and off ship, broke down in July and subsequently making Likoma and Chizumulu Islands residents struggle relying on wood-made canoes owned by some businessmen around the Island.
At the moment, MSC has revealed it has long way to get back to its normal life since there is need of thorough mechanical check up by experts.
MSC spokesperson Austin Msowoya, who was quoted assuring the public in May that the engineers ran a successful engine test has contradicted his words by saying the ship is still under mechanical service.
Angered by lack of transportation to and from the Islands people of Likoma wrote an open letter to the President lamenting government’s lack of commitment to find a lasting solution to transport woes on the islands.
