A 31 year-old man has been found dead in what appears to be a hit-and-run road accident in the lake shore district of Nkhotakota.
According to the district’s police publicist, Williams Kaponda, the deceased has been identified as Billy Yohane of Kamungwe village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwadzama in the district.
The police spokesperson said Yohane was found lying dead on the M5 road near Nkhula Bridge in the early hours of 18 August this year.
“It is believed that the motor vehicle which hit the victim was coming from Nkhotakota heading to Salima along the M5 road. The deceased was found by villagers who reported the matter to police. The law enforcers then rushed to the scene,” said Kaponda.
He said post-mortem results, according to the district’s health personnel, have shown that the deceased died due to deep cuts in the head and multiple fractures on his body.
He said meanwhile, the police are appealing to members of the general public that whenever they are moving at night should at least wear something that can be seen and noted from far such as reflectors as one way of helping to reduce road accidents which he said have become regular in the country.
