The government of Malawi has disclosed that it requires about K280 million to prepare for any outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus which is currently causing havoc in the western part of Africa.

Head of the Public Health institute Dr. Augustine Nthambala and his deputy Dr Matthews Kagoli revealed this during orientation of media personnel on the health sector’s Ebola outbreak preparedness.

The disclosure comes barely days after President Mutharika assured Malawians that his government will do whatever it can to make sure that the Virus does not spread to the country.

Nthambala said the money will be used to establish isolation facilities in the three major hospitals in the country
.
His deputy Kenneth Kagoli added that such isolated facilities at Kamuzu, Queen Elizabeth, Zomba and Mzuzu central hospitals would enable health workers to properly handle cases of Ebola if they were reported.

The two officials further disclosed that with support from the World Health Organisation, all districts have what they are calling rapid response teams on the same.
