The Malawi Electoral Commission’s (MEC) Chief elections officer Willie Kalonga has signed a statement which states the launch of by-elections which are to take place in all constituencies wards that have fallen vacant due to various development.

The statement also states that meetings in the concerned areas will start on Monday 25th August by 8:30 am.

“All political parties, aspiring candidates, Civil Society Organisations, traditional leaders and all stakeholders involved in elections are invited to attend,” read the statement in part.

The constituencies affected include: Thyolo East and Blantyre North.

The wards affected include: Lisanjala in Machinga Likwenu, Kandeu in Ntcheu North East, Lifupa in Kasungu West, Mbalachanda in Mzimba Centra and Zgeba in Karonga Nyungwe.

The statement added: “During the meetings the Commission will release the electoral calendar and also give an opportunity to stakeholders to seek clarification on any activity for the by-elections.”
