Former President and leader of PP Joyce Banda has called for collective leadership in the People’s Party (PP).

Banda announced the news yesterday when she was addressing members of the party’s district and regional committees from Southern Region in Blantyre.

“We must ensure collective leadership and prevent any individual from monopolizing the conduct of affairs of the PP.

Solutions to pressing problems must be decided not by Joyce Banda or any one individual but all of us leaders of the PP through the various committees,” said Banda amid ululation from the party members.

While thanking the members for remaining steadfast after the controversial tripartite elections, in which she came third, Banda encouraged the members to be vibrant and commit themselves to rebuilding of the party so as to win the confidence and trust of the ordinary Malawians.

She also said that district and regional committees are crucial in the party’s rebuilding process as they directly relate with the grassroots.

During the meeting, the regional and district leaders from the south presented reports of the ‘state of affairs’ in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Notable PP figures present at the meeting included Secretary General Paul Maulidi and his deputy Irene Chikuni, Vice President of the party, Brown Mpinganjira and provincial governor for the South, Isaac Nyakamera.

Banda is expected to hold similar meeting in the eastern, central and northern regions.
