These students, nestled beneath a thatched roof at Nthuli Primary School in Malawi, sit among 100 or so of their peers. The average classroom size in the country is high: the pupil/teacher ratio is estimated at 76 students per one teacher (2011, EFA GMR).
Malawi joined the Global Partnership for Education in 2009. Its education goals are to improve the quality of learning for all students and the management of the education system. The country received a GPE grant of $90 million in 2010.
