President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has disclosed that he is going to represent Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as Presidential candidate come 2019.

Mutharika, 74 disclosed this at a public rally held by the party at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre where thousands of DPP followers graced the rally.

In his speech, Mutharika said come 2019 he will contest on the party ticket and there will be no fall back plan.

“I am going to be seeking another mandate,” said Mutharika.

On his treason case that he was answering, President Mutharika described the case as politically motivated which aimed at frustrating his candidature.

“There was no case for treason,” said Mutharika.

On his plan for the country, President Mutharika said he will stick to the promises that he made during the campaign ahead of the May 20 tripartite election.

“I am a President working in the office as you employed me; I will not be going around distributing chickens or pigs. If need for that comes, my ministers will do that not me.”Mutharika explained.

President Mutharika also pledged the gathering that his government will tighten up the security in the country.
