Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has said it will no longer use teachers as Presiding officers and Supervisors in the future elections due to infectiveness.

MEC Commissioner Gloria Chingota disclosed this in an interview with one of the local media house in the country [ZBS].

In her speech, Chingota said in the forthcoming 2019 election MEC will advertise the position of Presiding officers and Supervisors.

Reacting to the development, Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) General Secretary Denis Kalekeni described the move as ‘unfortunate’ saying the Commission is to blame.

The May 20 tripartite election was marred by several irregularities. These irregularities forced other opposition political parties like United Democratic Front (UDF) to call for resignation of MEC Chairperson Maxon Mbendela.
