President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Sunday ordered Malawi Police Services Inspector General (IG), Loti Dzonzi to promote two police officers who recovered stolen money amounting to K0.5 billion for Mzuzu Standard Bank last week.

Mutharika said this at Masintha Ground during a thanks-giving rally in Lilongwe over the Weekend.

Unknown armed robbers invaded the Bank and went away with the said money.

Although this was the case, two police officers working for Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) managed to rescue the money at Jenda roadblock which borders Kasungu and Mzimba districts with Zambia.

“I have learnt that K400 million was recovered by two police officers. I am appealing to the inspector general of police to promote the two to another level,” said Mutharika.

Mutharika further vowed to wage war against crime in the country.
