Ministry  of  Finance, Economic Planning  and  Development says only 640,000  people  in 19 districts of the country will  face food  shortage in the 2014/15 consumption period,  representing only 4 percent of the country’s population.

Minister responsible Goodall Gondwe disclosed this in Lilongwe when he presented the 2014 Food Security and Vulnerability Analysis results.

Gondwe further said a food assessment exercise carried out by the Ministry in all districts has established that the number of people who will face hunger is far too low as compared to last year when 1.8 Million people were food insecure.

Gondwe also said it is encouraging to note that maize is available locally and being sold at lower prices as compared to the same period last year.

He however emphasizes that government will regulate the flow of staple foods being exported.
