Death has been announced of former ruling People’s Party (PP) Councillor in Mzuzu, Charles Nyirongo, who was injured in a fight over a woman.
Mzuzu Police Public Relations Officer, Maurice Chapola confirmed of the incident, saying Nyirongo died due to injuries sustained in a fight with Sangwani Chirambo who is currently in custody.
According Chapola, Nyirongo was allegedly dating Chirambo’s wife, Erita Mbewe 32 years old of Lundu in Blantyre.
“The victim was dating Erita Mbewe who has been on separation from her husband Chirambo. And on Wednesday, Nyirongo went to her house and some people informed Chirambo about it.
“It is reported that a fierce fight ensued between the two (Chirambo and Nyirongo) and the victim was severely injured and was rushed to Mzuzu Central Hospital where he died on Thursday,” said Chapola
Chirambo 48 years-old works for Central Medical Stores in Mzuzu and has been arrested and charged of murder.
PP Publicity Secretary, Ken Msonda confirmed receiving the news.
Nyirongo hails from Songo village T/A Thindi in Mzimba.
