Three people are reported dead in a road accident that happened on Thursday at Kwacha round about in the commercial capital of Blantyre.
The accident involved a Nissan Diesel Lorry registration number NE 2505, with almost 35 people on board. Witnesses say the vehicle was overloaded with business people and their goods.
Both Southern Region Deputy Police spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital Personnel confirmed of the development.
Mikuwa says upon reaching the round-about, the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into a road side stream, where two women and a man died.
She said the accident happened due to break failure.
The Lorry was travelling from Limbe heading to Chikhwawa and was driven by Rashid Anthony Marick.
According to Makuwa, three passengers died on the spot while 30 others sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the Lorry is in Police custody.
