Death has been announced of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) broadcaster-cum-politician James Chimera.

Chimera died at the age of 72.

According to information gathered by FaceofMalawi from Chimera’s closest friend, Version Idi, Chimera died of heart problem at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre on Saturday afternoon.

Chimera, popularly known as Mtengo wa Minga, was one of the famous personalities at MBC from the early 70s to around 1993.

He also served at Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) as director of broadcasting.

He joined the Malawi Congress Party towards end of the one party era in the early 90’s and served a junior minister of information.

The remains of Chimera will be buried on Tuesday at HHI cemetery in Blantyre.
