Reports reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that angry residence in Lilongwe’s Area 18 on Monday morning took the law into their own hands as they stormed the house of one Mai Osewa to deliver ‘justice’ after suspecting her of murdering a man.
Lilongwe Police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the development.
The man, only identified as Mr. Nyundo from Mangochi district, was found dead and hanged to a tree in the morning of Monday, September 15, 2014.
One of the eye witness who asked for anonymity said : “It cannot be suicide because the man was too tall to hang himself dead on such a short tree.”
It was also established that the woman became top suspect following Nyundo’s complaints of money and house ownership disagreements between him and the suspect.
FOM also found out that the residents were further infuriated because the woman is apparently suspect in two other deaths in the same area.
“The man had even gone to complain to the chief of Area 18 two days before his fate saying if he would die it would be because of his house,” said another witness.
When the crowd descended on her home, Osewa fled leaving the house at the mercy of the mob which broke glasses, destroyed her two cars and got a radio and a home theater from the house.
The woman has since been locked up in police custody for safety.
