Former ruling people’s Party (PP) Eastern Region Provincial Chairperson Samson Msosa has been ordered to K640,000 or in default serve 42 months jail term for allegedly causing death by reckless driving.

Mangochi First Grade Magistrate Ronald Mbwana also ordered Msosa to refrain from driving any fuel-propelled machine for a period of six months and that his vehicle should not move on the roads of Malawi until it is fully serviced with all proper documents renewed.

Msosa’s court appearance followed his arrest on bail on 12 August this year in connection to a hit and run accident that happened on 2 August this year which claimed the life of a 72-year-old man Ndiche Mayilosi.

State prosecutor Mwabi Kalua told the court that Msosa deserved a stiffer punishment for wasting courts time in initially denying wrong-doing before changing plea later.

When passing judgment, Magistrate Mbwana said by pleading guilty, Msosa had shown remorse and it was not necessary to consider the time of admitting of the offence.
