Commotion erupted in Parliament on Thursday when Members of Parliament for the Northern Region took to task Minister of Education Emmanuel Fabiano on the selection of form one students.

The MPs cried foul on how students especially from the North have been selected in various Public schools, saying the selection is more than Quota System. Mzuzu City MP Joe Njikho was the one who started it all.

He informed the House that of the 52 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) candidates selected to Nkhata Bay Secondary School, not one was from the Northern Region or the district itself.

Njikho remarks was echoed by Mzimba Hora MP Christopher Mzomera Ngwira who vehemently blasted the Quota System and demanded an immediate answer from the responsible Minister.

Responding to the queries Fabiano said 40 percent of the Students from the Northern Region has been selected to various public schools and it’s enough for the region.

The response did not please Ngwira who rubbished the figures and denied to take orders from Deputy Speaker of Parliament Clement chiwaya who later sent him out.

The development did not please other PP MPs, Seven in number who also walked out of Parliament in solidarity of Ngwira.

Meanwhile ngwira has been suspended for two days.
