Blantyre Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (BSPCA) will this coming Saturday join many organizations across the world by hosting a World Rabies Day event, aimed at promoting rabies prevention and awareness.
The commemoration day will come barely a week after the launch of the ant-rabies vaccine campaign which was held in Ncheu on September 17, 2014 by the Department of Livestock Development in the ministry of Agriculture.
This year’s commemoration day will be held in Ndirande township in the commercial capital of Blantyre on September 27-28, 2014.
“We will be giving out free Rabies vaccinations, deworming and flea treatment to all dogs or cats who are brought to the 2 day event, to be held in Ndirande on the 27th and 28th of September. Gates will open at 8am and close at 3.30pm on both days”, reads in part the statement.
The ant-rabies campaign which is being rolled out across the country will run for about a month starting from September 17 to October 16 and the Malawi Government plans to vaccinate about 500,000 pets—dogs and cats.
