Lake of Stars Music Festival is a three-day international event held on the shores of Lake Malawi (Lake Niassa), the third largest fresh water lake in Africa. The name, Lake of Stars is derived from the romanticized title given to Lake Malawi by the explorer David Livingstone. The name also comes from the fishermen’s lights that shine on the horizon like stars. The festival has been held annually around September-October since 2004, in various locations on the shores of Lake Malawi. The event was founded by Will Jameson to raise money for Malawi’s developing economy whilst helping to promote Malawi as a tourist destination and expose Malawian artists to international crowds.
