Two people are in Police custody in Zomba for allegedly being suspected of killing a watchman in a burglary and theft mission last week.

Eastern Region Police Public Relations Officer Thomeck Nyaude confirmed of the development and identified the deceased as James Idana, 65.

According to Nyaude, the two suspects identified as Fletcher Chilipa and Kolen Kausiwa Mbendera murdered the deceased by smashing his head with a rock.

“Police investigation shows that the two found the victim fast asleep and to avoid being disturbed by him the two agreed to lift a big stone which was a few metres from where the deceased was sleeping and smashed his head.

“After noticing that the deceased was making some body movements, probably fighting for his life, the suspects sat on the stone to add some weight until Idana died,” he said.

The two suspects were arrested two days later after the incident and some of the stolen items were recovered.

Chilipa and Mbendera both from Traditional Authority(T/A) Mlumbe in the district.
