As debates continues on the proposal by people from the North led by former ruling People’s Party (PP) provincial chairman Christopher Mzomera Ngwira for the formation of Federal System of Government, a group calling itself Forum for Advancement of Federal System is scheduled to hold its first Indaba on the issue this Friday in Mzuzu.

Billy Banda, the group’s leader confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local media house in the country [ ZBS].

In his speech, Banda said apart from attaining fiscal devolution, the group also want Malawi’s state presidency to be rotating among the three regions.

He also disclosed that one of the issues to be discussed at the indaba is to do with the quota system of selecting students to Malawi’s schools.

Banda said the federalism campaign should not be construed as a war against a particular sect of the society.

According Banda, the grouping has so far instituted branches in all the districts in the Northern Region except Likoma.

The move taken by Ngwira to champion the formation of Federal System of Government has received criticisms from all sectors, describing it as move to divide Malawians.
