Residents from Area 49 Gulliver, Dubai, Baghdad, Shire and part of area 25 in Lilongwe have gone for three days without water.

A resident from Gulliver, George Liabunya said the situation was very worrisome and described it as a threat to people’s health.

Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) Public Relations Officer Trevor Phoya said the problem arose due to a broken pipe at area 14 booster station which pumps water to Kanengo tanks before the water is supplied to the affected areas.

“A pipe broke at the Booster station in area 14 on Monday where we pump water to those affected areas, we worked on it and got fixed but it burst again at the same place,” said Phoya.

Phoya said they LWB had since been working on the pipe the whole day on Tuesday and assured people from the affected areas to expect water to be restored before end of the day on Wednesday.

“It looked like a small job but it is a big one, am just coming from area 14 Booster station and the job is almost complete, we expect that supply of water to these areas will be restored by today afternoon,” said Phoya.

LWB was established in 1947 and it was reconstituted as a Parastatal organisation by an Act of Parliament in 1995.
