Chibuku Products Limited (CPL) on Wednesday gave 10 wheelbarrows to the Blantyre City Council (BCC) to help promote sanitation and a clean environment in the city of Blantyre.
CPL Corporate Affairs Manager, Wise Chauluka, during the handover ceremony, said the gesture was the company’s way of complimenting Blantyre city mayor’s efforts to restore the cleanliness and greenery of the city of Blantyre.
“The concern about littering around should be addressed,” said Chauluka, “And what we as Chibuku are doing is addressing the issue of how to dispose the waste that we find on the streets”
He further added that the company is giving the city the opportunity to have the kind of facilities that will help them do the job.
“The issue of the wheelbarrows is the beginning of our corporate social responsibilities as we look ahead to seeing Blantyre City become the city that has always been known for being clean,” Chauluka said
Speaking after receiving the donation, Blantyre City Mayor Noel Chalamanda said the donation will go a long way in addressing the effort of improving sanitation in Blantyre.
“We have so many challenges in keeping the city clean which the council cannot manage to address everything on its own,” said Chalamanda.
He added that he was particularly pleased with the donation as it is a first since he assumed the Mayor’s office three months ago.
