Barely a week after fire consumed Mbayani Market in the commercial capital of Blantyre leaving vendors hopeless, on Saturday fire also consumed part of Standard Bank in Lilongwe.

According to the eyewitness who confined to FaceofMalawi said the fire started at around 5pm when the bank was closed.

The fire caught the top side of the bank damaging the ceiling and computers.

According to the source, the Lilongwe City Fire brigade came in time to contain the fire before it spread to the building.

Speaking in an interview with the press Standard Bank managing director Andrew Mashada assured everyone that the situation is now under control.

He also said soon the bank will update the public on the situation.

Meanwhile the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
