Zomba High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a money laundering case involving one of the well known businessman, Oswald Lutepo, the prime suspect in the plundering of public funds at Capitol Hill dubbed cashgate to November 4.
The adjournment comes following the application by former President Dr. Joyce Banda through her lawyer Maweya Msuku to join the case as an interested party.
Banda was dragged into the case after the court allowed Lutepo, who, ironically also held a senior position in Banda’s former ruling People’s Party, access to recordings of her phone conversation.
But Banda blocked the move by obtaining a stay order restraining the release of the call logs, arguing that doing so is invading her privacy.
In a related development, High Court Judge Redson Kapindu has adjourned the hearing of of Banda’s application to join the case to October 17.
