Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) has said that internal candidates seating for the forthcoming Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examination will be required to have Identity Cards.
According to information posted on its official website, the body has decided to come up the idea to step up security of national examinations.
Previously, only external candidates at (PSLCE) examination level used to have such identity cards, just like candidates at Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination levels.
“As the public might be aware, some arrests have been made over the years, bordering on impersonation at this [PSLCE] level. The latest arrest was during the administration of this year’s PSLCE examination where a secondary school candidate was caught red-handed, writing the examination on behalf of the registered candidate.
“This introduction of IDs, therefore, means that all candidates at (PSLCE) examination level, both internal and external, will have to pay a K700 ID processing fee as part of registration for next year’s examinations. The rule of “no ID, no exam” has since been extended to all (PSLCE) exam candidates hence all candidates should ensure they have this ID”, reads in part the statement.
The 2013/14 National Examinations administered at all levels registered a decrease in cheating cases as compared to previous years where the board had to re-administer the exams due to cheating.
